Reiki (pronounced
“ray-key”) means universal (rei) life force energy (ki). Fairly new to the
West, Reiki is an ancient healing system for the body, mind, and spirit. Reiki
is a simple hands-on practice that works with the energy fields flowing within
and around every one of us. The energy flows through the practitioner’s hands
and into the cells of the person receiving the treatment.
A Reiki treatment feels like a wonderful, glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person---body, emotions, mind and spirit ---creating a deep sense of relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well-being. This allows the body to heal itself more effectively and many people have reported tremendous results.
Reiki is
noninvasive, gentle and safe. It revitalizes the body’s organs and tissues,
strengthens the immune system, balances the energy centers, and promotes
vitality and relaxation. There are no known medical contraindications to using
Reiki.
Reiki is one of the most
rapidly growing healing therapies today.

A
Reiki Treatment
In a one-hour Reiki
treatment, the client lies down fully clothed, removing only glasses and shoes.
The practitioner places his or her hands in a prescribed pattern on the front
and back of the torso, around the head, and on the feet and backs of the knees.
The hands are usually kept still for two to five minutes before moving to the
next position.
Clients say they
experience a calming of the mind and nervous system, bringing about greater
inner spaciousness and peace.
